The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body dedicated to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women. Established in 1946 under the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), it plays a pivotal role in setting standards, developing policies, and reviewing progress on women’s rights worldwide.The UNCSW’s work is guided by frameworks like the Beijing Declaration (1995) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It monitors global progress on gender equality and drives systemic change to advance women’s rights and build a more inclusive world.
